Review

This is my first read by Danika Bloom, and it certainly won’t be my last. I immediately fell in love with her world of characters, and other readers might know or recognize them from her universe of The Mixed Six Pack, which I will be reading in the near future.

Lizzy is a smart woman, trying to embrace all the joys in life that she can, even if her energy is a little misdirected. After being raised by a single mother who wanted nothing to do with her as a kid, Lizzy has a strict timeline for her life, one that doesn’t include meeting “the one” and settling down to have a family until she’s 30. She has big plans: earned her master’s degree and wants to travel the world before settling into her career as a trained counselor. However, when one of her best friend’s siblings needs help, she can’t help but step up (even if on accident) to make sure that Olivia and Adam stay together.

Adam, a perpetual bachelor, has been crushing on his brother’s friend Lizzy for years. But he’s not really the settling down type, even after he inherits Olivia when her parents (his best friends) die in a tragic accident. The love between Olivia and Adam makes this book so beautiful. He does everything right for Olivia’s sake, raising her in a home and in a family that just adores her, though she makes that easy with her personality.

When Lizzy and Adam are accidentally forced into a fake marriage of convenience, their chemistry can’t be contained to “the rules” setup to protect their hearts when the fake marriage ends. Their physical relationship aside, Adam and Lizzy are a perfect balance for each other; Lizzy’s just the kind of partner Adam needs to feel supported, and Adam is the perfect adventure partner for Lizzy (their fake vows are swoony!).

Lizzy and Adam end up spending a wonderful summer together as a family with Olivia, hoping to work out the guardianship turmoil outside of court. But when the time is up, do their hearts end up broken, or can their family stay together despite all the trials that stand in their way?

This story contained so many unique elements. I’ve read a lot of romance this year (some number of over 300 books this calendar year), and this storyline had so many different aspects that I really enjoyed. This book earns 4.5/5 stars from me.
