Review

To be honest, I kind of loved this book even though some of the dialogue was cringeworthy and the first 50% of the book took place over the span of less than 12 hours?

Stella and Kade are both really sweet characters individually, and their chemistry screams off the page. They both literally fall in love at first sight, to the point of obsession, and their physical relationship goes from zero to sixty within five minutes, literally. While this is a book I would say IS steamy, it didn’t always feel genuine/natural/realistic (she’s a virgin, with zero experience outside of kissing… and I get that most of us have experiences with losing our virginity that aren’t *sexy* but any virgins reading this book should know this is IN THE CLOUDS FICTION). However, Kade cares so much for Stella that the major takeaway I have from their relationship is that he’s fiercely protective, devoted, and trustworthy, which makes him such a dreamy character outside of the alpha, rock star, millionaire, blah blah blah tropes… he basically hits every trope imaginable, and Capulet acknowledges this in a self-aware moment via Stella, the budding romance writer that she is.

I also had a bit of a problem with some of the dialogue, both internal and external. Examples: “I happen to be well hung as f&%^ and it’s uncomfortable…,” “Or why it surprises me that I’m the one this beautiful, world-famous, well-hung AF magic man…,” orrrr my personal favorite (or least favorite??), “He’s pressing against my womb.” (UGH SERIOUSLY?? HER WOMB?????)

All of the angst in their relationship comes from other people, past relationships, family, and the tension of living in the public eye. I can’t remember a book in recent memory that combined past relationships, some mental health, a little kidnapping, virginity, wealthy rock stars, adoption…. there were a lot of heavy topics but this book was still light and didn’t go too deep. Even Stella searching for her birth parents didn’t make me emotional, which I felt like was a missed opportunity.

Overall, this book didn’t make my heart speed up or catch my breath. I wasn’t too invested. I was able to put it down and come back to it later. It was light. There was adventure. The main characters really fell in love – I believe that, truly, but there were just too many things that I didn’t *love* that firmly plants this book in the like category.
